Detail

A closer look

Dub Control deck with a tune loaded: two-tone waveform and overview strip, transport with REWIND, sends with DUB IT, PHASE and THROW, filter, siren triggers and sample pads

The deck

Load or drop a tune, then run it with play, pause, restart and skip. REWIND is the classic pull-up, a backward spin-down that feeds the echo on the way out, with Vinyl Stop for a turntable slow-down instead of a hard cut.

Dub Control per-deck sends: DELAY with time readout, PHASER rate and REVERB, with DUB IT, PHASE and THROW buttonsDub Control deck filter with ON and STEP, cutoff sweep and Q

Sends and filter

Every deck carries its own send rack. The DELAY send feeds the tape echo with its time on display, the PHASER runs at its own rate, and the REVERB send washes into the spring tank. DUB IT throws the tune into the echo and drops the mid and high for the classic dub drop-out, PHASE spins it through the phaser, and THROW flings it into the reverb. Beside them sits the deck filter: switch it ON, sweep the cutoff by hand with its Q, or hit STEP to snap the sweep to stepped intervals locked to the groove.

Dub Control sample pads A to H with sirens and horns loaded, green level fills, and the samples DELAY send and VOLUME

Sample pads

Eight pads, A through H, hold your one-shot samples: sirens, horns, gunshots, drops. Double-click to load a pad, Ctrl-drag across it to set the level shown as a green fill, and fire it with a click, a MIDI note or a mapped key. A shared DELAY send drops the whole bank into the tape echo, with a VOLUME for the samples output.

Dub Control dub siren panel with oscillator, LFO, echo and a live scope

Dub siren

A full siren voice: oscillator and LFO with selectable waveforms, pitch, glide, tone and decay. Route the LFO to pitch or amplitude, add wobble, trigger or hold, bend it by hand, and watch it on the live scope.

Dub Control tape delay panel with time, feedback, wet, tone and sync

Tape echo

A Space Echo style tape delay with wow, flutter, tape saturation and tone shaping. Run it free in milliseconds or lock it to tempo, spin the feedback to infinity, and filter the repeats low, mid or high.

Dub Control spring reverb panel with decay, damp, wet, width, chirp and input and output filters

Spring reverb

A King Tubby style spring tank rebuilt from multiple spring lines and allpass diffusers. Decay, damping, width and chirp, with input and output filtering for that dark, splashing dub tail.

Dub Control parametric EQ, eight bands across sub, bass, mid and high, each with gain and a tunable base frequency, plus a per-way trim

Parametric EQ

Musical tonal shaping, colour-coded the way an operator hears a rig. Eight bands, two per way across sub, bass, mid and high, each with its own gain sitting on a carefully chosen base frequency you can tune, plus a trim that lifts or drops the whole way at once. The frequencies are already placed where dub lives, so you shape by feel rather than hunting.

Dub Control 31-band graphic EQ, third-octave bands from 20 Hz to 20 kHz

31-band graphic EQ

A full ISO third-octave graphic EQ from 20 Hz to 20 kHz for dialling the room in, with dub-ready presets.

Dub Control 4-way crossover with SUB, BASS, MID and HIGH bands, kill and solo

4-way crossover

Split the mix into sub, bass, mid and high with tunable crossover frequencies and per-band level. KILL or SOLO any band, phase-coherent and always on, like a real rig.

Mic, line and master

Dub Control mic channel with dynamics, echo and reverb sends, gain and metering
Mic input and dynamicsMono mic with gain and its own echo and reverb sends, plus a feedback killer, high-pass and noise gate to keep an open mic clean on a loud rig.
Dub Control stereo line input with L and R channel pickers, gain and metering
Stereo line inA deck, mixer or interface over stereo line input, with L and R channel pickers, gain and metering. A second line opens up with a multichannel interface.
Dub Control master section with stereo VU and gain-reduction metering, brickwall limiter and master gain
Master and limiterMaster gain with tall stereo VU and gain-reduction metering, and a brickwall limiter, soft, medium or hard, so the rig never clips when you push it.
Performance

Moves that run the dance

A few moves that turn the controls into a performance.

DUB IT

DUB IT throws the deck into the tape echo for a one-shot dub stab, and while you hold it down it drops out the mid and high bands, so the echo keeps repeating on top of the sub and bass. That's the classic dub drop-out.

PHASE

Hit PHASE to spin the echo feedback through the phaser, running at 0.5 Hz by default, smearing the repeats into a slow, swirling sweep.

THROW

Tap THROW to fling a snare, a word or a whole phrase into the King Tubby style spring reverb, pushing a burst into the tank so it blooms and washes out in a long, splashy tail.

KILL

Hit KILL on the SUB and BASS bands through a build, then release both on the one: the low end crashes back in while the echo keeps the killed bassline washing on top. The bass drop.

STEP filter

Switch the deck filter to STEP and the cutoff sweep snaps to stepped intervals, locked to the groove. That swept high-pass filter, the sound King Tubby made his signature, turned into rhythmic stabs.

REWIND

Pull REWIND for the classic rewind: the tune spins backward and feeds its own dedicated echo, washing out as you bring it all the way back, then drop it again on the one.

Built-in stations

Tune in, Support

A built-in live radio input streams some of the finest roots, dub, ska and reggae stations on the internet.

Dub Control exists to serve the music: reggae, dub, and every effort to spread the word and carry the message to the people. So we want to do more than play it. We want to give something back to the people and institutions keeping it alive.

These are the stations that kept me company through the countless late nights and unlimited hours that went into building this app.

Alpha Boys School

Kingston, Jamaica

Quite simply, the cradle of Jamaican music. Founded in 1880 on South Camp Road in Kingston and run by the Roman Catholic Sisters of Mercy, Alpha became renowned for the discipline it instilled and the extraordinary musical education it gave its pupils. Its band was formed in 1892, and for an astonishing 64 years the music programme was guided by the jazz-loving Sister Mary Ignatius, the godmother of ska and reggae. The players who came through Alpha built ska, rocksteady, reggae and dub: most of the Skatalites' horn section, Don Drummond, Tommy McCook, Lester Sterling, Johnny "Dizzy" Moore, Rico Rodriguez, Joe Harriott, Leroy Smart, Johnny Osbourne and Yellowman, to name only a few. Alpha Boys School Radio, launched in 2013, streams jazz, ska, dub and reggae around the clock, and every single track features at least one person who studied at the school, with donations helping to fund scholarships and radio internships for the next generation of Alpha musicians.

A school that has given the world this much deserves something back. As a sign of respect, 3.14% of Dub Control's net profits will go directly to Alpha Boys School.

Real Roots Radio

United Kingdom

A conscious, worldwide roots reggae station broadcasting 24/7 with live shows every day. Real Roots grew out of the London sound system scene, where it's been hosting and performing since 2009: strictly vinyl, strictly roots, and even running its own hand-built four-scoop analogue sound system. They're not just a station; they're selectors, promoters and culture-keepers carrying the music forward, exactly the spirit Dub Control is built for. We support them because they do the work, on the air, every single day.

Scratch Radio

An internet station devoted to strictly roots Jamaican music: mento, ska, rocksteady, reggae and dub, running from the late 1950s right up to today. It's named after Lee "Scratch" Perry (1936-2021), the visionary Jamaican producer whose studio experiments (echo, reverb, and the art of the mix) helped invent dub as we know it. If you've ever reached for the tape echo or spring reverb in Dub Control, you're standing on ground Scratch broke. After more than two decades on air and a short hiatus, the station returned in 2025 with a playlist of over 6,300 songs. We support it for keeping the roots, and Scratch's legacy, alive.

The story

The idea first came to me on one of those misty early mornings back in 2006, riding the number 29 bus home after a powerful Zulu Warrior session at the Rocket in London. Shaka had just finished the night with one of his deep and legendary last tunes, and it was still vibrating in my mind.

Only drum and bass. Clean and exposed. The mids and tops stripped right away. Nothing left but weight, space, pressure, and spiritual vibration.

That was the moment the thought arrived: what if that sound could be shaped anytime, anywhere? To take a tune and pull it down to its foundation, to turn anything into a heavyweight soundsystem experience even on a small home stereo. No rare hardware, no expensive preamps. Just a laptop and a soundcard, and a way to control the energy.

Two years later, after countless hours of work with the limited knowledge and tools I had back then, I built Reggae PreProcessor. The idea was there. But the sound quality, the flexibility, the expertise were still missing. So I held onto it, a seed waiting for better ground.

Today, as co-founder of MIA Laboratories audio plugins, Dubwise Hi Fi sound system, and Amp Outernational band and label, the ground was finally fertile. After a lot of work, and a lot of commitment, here comes Dub Control.

What began as a simple idea to remove mids and tops has grown into a full soundsystem control tower, built for shaping sessions, pushing weight, and controlling energy from the foundation up.

Made real with the kind help of Counteraction Soundz and Vision Soundsystem.

With pure love and dedication to the music,

Chris Stratos
